To apply for a UK start-up visa, you need to have an innovative business idea that helpe to grow UK economy and create jobs, i.e., a business that is not present in the existing market. You also need to meet diverse eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Criterion

To be eligible for the visa, you need to be approved by any of the following:

  • A higher education body in the UK.
  • A business that has supported UK business owners in the past.
  • App

You also need to prove that:

Your business is based on a new concept – you cannot become part of a business that is currently trading.

Your business is innovative – your business idea should be unique compared to anything else in the market.

Your business is viable – your business should have the potential to grow.

Duration of Stay

You can stay for 2 years in the UK on a start-up visa. You can also switch to an Innovator Visa to prolong your stay. While you cannot extend your stay on a start-up visa, you can apply for an Innovatve Visa while you possess the former. That is possible if:

  • Your business is actively trading and has a sustainable business model.
  • You are involved in daily operations.
  • Your endorsing body evaluated and approved it.

Dos and Don’ts

On a start-up visa you can:

  • Bring dependent children and partner with you to the UK.
  • Travel outside the UK and return to the country.
  • Hold a different job as you work on your business.

On a start-up visa you cannot:

  • Apply for State pension and other public funds.
  • Settle in the country permanently.
  • Work as a professional sportsperson.
